About
Tosca Press is a publishing imprint for photobooks which are tools for reflection as well as action, founded by Sonia Lenzi.
Tosca is the main character of an opera by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, based on Victorien Sardou's 1887 dramatic play. The Premiere of 'Tosca' was in 1900. She kills the man who wanted to force her in a sexual relationship she didn't want by using his position of power.
This postcards was written by an admirer to Zelinda Evangelisti, a tailor, a midwife, a magician and Sonia Lenzi's great grandmother, born at the end of 1800, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. She then called her daughter Tosca. The postcard reproduces a painting by Luigi Crosio and tells a story. A story of romance, power, feminism and politics.
